Minister Papazov launched the reconstruction of the railway station in Pazardzhik

The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Danail Papazov, launched the reconstruction of the railway station in the town of Pazardzhik. "This project will change the face of one of the most important buildings of the city's transport," said Minister Papazov during the ceremony for the signing of the rehabilitation contracts. The investment is over 3.5 million lev, and construction activities must be completed within 8 months. In the words of Daniel Papazov, this means that next summer Pazardzhik will have a modern station that meets all European requirements.

Minister Papazov recalled that over the years the underpass beneath the platforms was not looked after and it is currently in poor condition. "We understand that it is an important pedestrian connection for the inhabitants of the town of Pazardzhik. Therefore, the underpass is included in the scope of the project and will be fully restored. Proper lighting will be installed so people can use it at any time during the day" Danail Papazov said.

He added that the modernization of the railway section September – Plovdiv is currently in progress. The contracts of the project are currently totaling at over 257 million lev and with its completion in 2015, the trains passing through Pazardzhik will be able to move at a speed of 160 km/h.

Minister Papazov said that during the next programming period, the line from Sofia to Bourgas, and consequently to the Turkish border, will be completed. In his words, the goal is to upgrade the entire line for speed of 160 km/h by 2020. With the completion of these routes, residents and visitors of Pazardzhik will be able to use fast and convenient rail, concluded Danail Papazov.

"Reconstruction and sanitation of the entrance building station Pazardjik - II-nd stage" is implemented with the co-financing of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Operational Programme "Transport" 2007-2013. The facility is part of the project that will modernize and the railway stations in Sofia and Burgas.

The ceremony of the signing of the contracts was attended by the Mayor of Pazardzhik, Todor Popov, and the District Governor of Pazardzhik, Ivan Yordanov.
