Minister Ivailo Moskovski Attends Formal Completion of Excavation of Sofia Underground Tunnel at Central Department Store The Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov, along with Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Ivailo Moskovski, attended the formal completion of the excavation of the Sofia underground tunnel at the Central Department Store (ZUM). The metro station is a part of the Sofia underground extension project, section Nadezhda road junction - Central Railway Station - St. Nedelya - National Palace of Culture - Cherni Vruh Blvd., financed under OP Transport.

The station is located beneath the unearthed archaeological level that is about to be included in the Serdika Ancient Complex. In view to the preservation of the archaeological items, found during the excavation activities, the project was re-worked and the station was built using a special methodology.

The internal structures of the platform and the floor levels of the two entrances are about to be constructed. At present the tunnel boring machine is operating in the northern shaft at the subway in front of the Central Market Hall. In the beginning of July it is expected to begin construction activities in the last tunnel section - from St. Nedelya Sq. to P. Evtimii Blvd.

The tunnel should be completed in early September this year. Parallel to it, the internal structure of the station are also about to be finished. Gradual installation of the equipment and architectural finishing works will begin in October-December. The station should be completed and the terrain above it - restored in April 2012. The deadline for the full completion of the second line, Nadezhda quarter - St. Nedelya Square - Cherni Vruh Blvd. - is end of August 2012.
