Minister Moskovski inspects the construction of the underground to Sofia Airport

The Minister of Transport, information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski together with the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova and the Executive Director of Metropoliten EAD eng. Stoyan Bratoev inspected the construction works along the underground line to Sofia Airport. They made a test journey from the Airport to Tsarigradsko Shose.

“In its capacity of a managing body, the Ministry continues to support the most successful project, I would say, namely Sofia underground. I am glad that Sofia Airport becomes so to say a multimodal transport center with incoming vehicle and underground transport”, said Ivaylo Moskovski during today’s inspection. “Let’s hope for the economy of the state to go in the right direction with greater growth, so as to fill up the infrastructure we are building with content”, added the Minister.

“Statistics on the underground is undoubted and when it comes to public interest that is one of the most important projects. Over 350 thousand people use the underground daily”, he added.

It emerged from today’s inspection that the underground line to the airport is 99 per cent ready and will be commissioned at the beginning of April. The line to the Business Park is 96 per cent ready and will start operating at the beginning of May at the earliest.

The project for the expansion of the underground in Sofia – Lot 3 is financed under Operational Program Transport 2007-2013 and is divided in two sections: Lot 1 Tsarigradsko Shose – Sofia Airport, and Lot 2 Mladost 1 – the Business Park in Mladost 4. Its total amount is 407 million levs, as 215 million of them are provided under OPT 2007-2013. Some 7.6 km of underground lines and 7 new stations are included in the scope of the project.
